Professor Hikmahanto Juwana, an International Relations (IR) expert, commended the Indonesian government’s concrete actions taken by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to help address the emergency situation in Gaza, Palestine. He believes that Indonesia is leading in providing the most concrete assistance to Gaza.
Prabowo’s firm speech at the High-Level Emergency Response Summit for Gaza in Amman, Jordan showcased Indonesia’s tangible and bold stance compared to other countries at the summit. According to Hikmahanto, Indonesia is not just making statements but also taking real action by planning to accommodate 1,000 patients and students in Indonesia for treatment and education. This proactive move is expected to draw attention from the US and Israel.
Hikmahanto emphasized that Indonesia’s bold actions could potentially pressure Israel and its ally, the United States, to cease acts of genocide in Gaza. He expressed hope that the concern raised by Indonesia’s actions would push for a halt to Israel’s atrocities, as international bodies like the United Nations have seemingly been ineffective in addressing the issue.
He further stated his wish for other countries to follow Indonesia’s lead in taking concrete steps, particularly at the Jordan summit led by Prabowo. Hikmahanto advocated for the formation of a humanitarian coalition to address the situation in Gaza, emphasizing the need for global solidarity based on humanity. He believes that a unified stance on humanitarian grounds can garner widespread support and action from various parties.
