Prabowo Subianto, the President of Indonesia, recently chaired a virtual limited cabinet meeting while on an official state visit abroad to address a territorial dispute involving four islands claimed by both Aceh and North Sumatra. The meeting was attended by key government officials, including the Minister of State Secretary, Minister of Home Affairs, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), the Governor of Aceh, and the Governor of North Sumatra. The objective of the meeting was to finalize the administrative return of the islands to Aceh.
After a thorough review supported by relevant data and documentation, President Prabowo concluded that Pulau Panjang, Pulau Lipan, Pulau Mangkir Gadang, and Pulau Mangkir Ketek are officially part of Aceh’s administrative territory. This decision is expected to bring a peaceful resolution to the dispute and promote regional harmony among all stakeholders involved.
