The Merah Putih Village Cooperatives, known as Kopdes Merah Putih, are a crucial part of President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision, focusing on achieving genuine independence through economic self-reliance and fair development. Fithra Faisal, a Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) in Jakarta, emphasized that the President’s programs align with the Asta Cita principles, prioritizing economic equality and poverty eradication starting from the grassroots level. The recent launch of over 80,000 Kopdes Merah Putih cooperatives in Bentangan Village, Klaten Regency, Central Java, highlighted President Prabowo’s belief that true independence should not only be about national symbols but also about improving the well-being of the people. These cooperatives, according to the President, signify a collective effort to enhance the quality of life for all individuals. Kopdes Merah Putih, as explained by Fithra, will serve as catalysts for inclusive economic growth, empowering communities and aligning with the development philosophy of Nobel laureate Amartya Sen. By focusing on removing “unfreedoms” like poverty and lack of political agency, these cooperatives aim to enable communities to participate meaningfully in the development process. Additionally, Kopdes Merah Putih is expected to boost rural economies, enhance the livelihoods of farmers and fishers, and create new job opportunities, thereby reducing youth migration to urban areas. With the provision of storage facilities and logistical support, these cooperatives seek to increase the value of produce, improve income, and reduce dependency on middlemen. Ultimately, the goal is to promote grassroots participation, strengthen local economies, and empower young people to build a sustainable future in their hometowns through cooperative efforts.
